We are particularly keen to welcome people who are keen to get into the events industry, even those with little or no experience we will support you to make the transition into working in events & help you make contacts in the industry.  We will prioritise applications for Brixton residents.

This opportunity will take just a few days of your summer & could be the starting point for a new career. Our team will support you to gain vital new skills & go on to help us delivery a successful and safe event in your local community.

The craft market was very successful in 2011 and will be bigger than ever in 2012. Also this year we are developing the area all around the Brix and St Matthews Church in to an Arts and Family  Village to attract more footfall and provide a focus for visitors with families. Pitches are in high demand and are given on a first come first serve basis so get your application in quick. Get your application in now for 2013!

Brixton Splash 2012 was the biggest and best ever.  The Board of Brixton Splash are delighted that every element of the event was so well received.  From the Tea Dance in the Town Hall on Saturday held in partnership with Lambeth Council and featuring a wonderful range of Jamaican performers from musicians to dancers and even some acting.  A full gallery from the event will be available soon.

We were also pleased with the response to our special ‘dressing’ in Brixton for the day.  Huge thanks go to LOCOG & The Ritzy Picturehouse for allowing us access to their spaces to mark this special occasion.

And then to the day itself wow, what can you say!  So many people, such a wonderful atmosphere, everyone in good spirits, laughing, dancing, enjoying the music, the arts & crafts, the DJs everything we had put on seemed to go down so well.  And of course the sun shined on us to!

So we just wanted to say a huge heartfelt thanks to all those that made it possible our small team of  those who worked on Splash, our event volunteers, our volunteer stewards, our stall holders, our artists, our performers, our DJs, our sound systems our crews.  Huge thanks to every single one of you for all your hard work.  We couldn’t have had an event without you and we really hope you are a part of our team for 2013 to!

Then of course there is all the businesses that supported us, thank you to Jamaica National, McDonalds, The Electric Social, Satay Bar, Deli Jerk and last but not least Greggs Bakery we really couldn’t have done it without you.  We hope you enjoyed working with us and being part of such an hugely positive and successful community street festival.  We hope you share that experience with us in 2013 and that you will help us grow that network of vital business support to ensure the event remains safe & successful in the future.

We are also thankful for the support of a wide range of journalists and local and international media representatives and will write more fully sharing those stories with you soon.

And finally, thank you to the community of Brixton for helping make the day such a great one.  We are all still smiling so although we think we might have got to the point where we have achieved our original aim of turning Brixton from infamous to famous we hope you agree we should carry on having a great big Brixton Splash every year… see you on 4 August 2013!

Local school children from Hill Mead School have got involved with the Jamaica 50 celebrations and are helping support Brixton Splash to become more family friendly with its expanded Arts & Family Village this year.  The worked together with our Arts Coordinator, Jane Duncan Ribeiro, to create a wonderful banner to decorate the Peace Gardens at this year’s event.  There will also be artwork created by the Vida Walsh Centre.

The support of the Community Development Foundation & The Arts Council has this year meant that the Arts & Family village can also feature:

12.30, 1.30, 2.30, 3.30 Spud and Yam Storytelling and Percussion Workshops (30 mins)

12.30 – 3.30 Cloth of Gold Printmaking workshops

3.30 – 6.30 198 Gallery Hustlebucks T-Shirt Design Workshops

Laurel Hird will be offering face painting and henna tattoos and we are very hopeful that the Jamaican flag and the Splash logo will be popular on the day.

The area should offer something for all the younger ones but there will also be performances on the mainstage featuring local young talent and special performances exploring and celebrating the history of and 50th anniversary of independence of Jamaica.

Lee Jasper, Brixton Splash Chair, joined a group from our security company Top Brass on the Stockwell Park Estate on Saturday 7 July for our first community outreach day in preparation for Brixton Splash 2012.  The group were delighted to be joined by PC Errol the Community Police Officer.  Outreach events will now take place on various Estates in the Brixton area from 12-4 pm on Saturdays.  Watch out for the orange T shirts near you soon!

Sunday 4^th August 2013, 12pm – 7pm

Brixton Town centre: Atlantic Road, Coldharbour Lane, Effra Road, Electric Avenue, Electric Lane, Rushcroft Road, Saltoun Road, St Matthew’s Peace Gardens, Windrush Square.  This year’s event will be bigger than ever featuring everything you know and love and some new and exciting developments exclusively for 2013.

Brixton Splash will again feature a variety of sound systems on and around Atlantic Road and Coldharbour Lane with a main stage on Windrush Square. The main stage will continue to support local talent with music styles including but not limited to  Soul, Pop, Ska and Reggae through to dancehall and roots music.

The Peace Gardens Arts & Family Village will be further developed with more free workshops, activities and arts and crafts.
